What you’ll leave with
A short lesson and a practice task that reveals what you understand.
Before you start
Choose one small topic and say what you already know. Start with a low-stakes subject such as spreadsheet basics, photography or a hobby.
Set a small goal
“Understand one spreadsheet formula” is easier to work with than “teach me computers”. Say what you want to be able to do afterwards.
Ask for an example
Request an everyday explanation, one worked example and a common mistake. Ask it to define unfamiliar words.
Try before looking
Ask for a practice question with the answer withheld. Explain your reasoning and ask for specific feedback.
Verify and revisit
Compare the explanation with a reliable textbook, official manual or trusted course. Come back later and try a different example.
Teach me [small topic]. I already know [starting point]. Explain it in plain language, show one worked example, then give me one practice task. Wait for my answer before showing the solution. Point out a common misunderstanding and suggest a reliable source I can use to check the explanation.
Replace the square brackets. Leave out private information.
Pause and check
AI can give convincing but incorrect explanations and references. Open sources yourself, and do not submit generated work as your own where that breaks course rules.
Make it a habit
Save a version of the prompt that worked for you. Next time, change the details and review the answer afresh. A familiar prompt can still produce a mistake.
